Literacy
has once again become a national priority. Reading is also a wonderful
way to share science with children. SB&F, a critical review
journal published by AAAS, develops an annual list of
Best Books for Children. Families can use this bibliography
to help guide their purchases and library selections.
Science
for Families
Helping children succeed in science and mathematics
is a goal shared by many families.PIPE
gives an example of a real science project in which families can
participate. PIPE uses specific science content that is tied to
the National Science Standards to model appropriate and effective
parental involvement strategies. Families can also share the excitement
of science by visiting local science and technology centers. For
more family science activities, visit TryScience.org,
a collaboration of over 400 science and technology centers worldwide.
