Literacy has once again become a national priority. Reading is also a wonderful way to share science with children. SB&F, a critical review journal published by AAAS, develops an annual list of Best Books for Children. Families can use this bibliography to help guide their purchases and library selections.

Science for Families

Helping children succeed in science and mathematics is a goal shared by many families.PIPE gives an example of a real science project in which families can participate. PIPE uses specific science content that is tied to the National Science Standards to model appropriate and effective parental involvement strategies. Families can also share the excitement of science by visiting local science and technology centers. Kinetic City

Kinetic City is a science adventure for children ages 8 to 11. Begun as a radio program (and later extended to books), Kinetic Cty Super Crew was recognized for its excellence in broadcasting when it received the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award in 1996. Kinetic City: Mission to Vearth is a new web based, interactive science story game that has been developed for individual use or team play in after school clubs.
